1. Green School Updates:
Gunston’s Green School status, goals, and objectives are reviewed by the full faculty during yearly opening and closing faculty meetings. Further emphasis was placed on the topic this year as we focus on renewing our Green School Application and begin an Environmental Strategic Planning processes. The faculty and staff have been involved in the preparation of our application and have received several progress reports over the course of the fall.

2. School-wide Environmental Education Activities:
Gunston hosts two annual events that offer environmental education opportunities for students, faculty, and staff. Faculty play a key role during our annual Earth Day celebration. Faculty offer workshops, host visiting speakers, and support student-led workshops. The full Earth Day Celebration is described in detail in Section 1.4. Central to Gunston’s environmental education curriculum, Bay Studies, is a weeklong field program for all students and teaching faculty. Teachers serve as group leaders and chaperones on the eleven different trips. Bay Studies is described in Section 1.1.

Seven faculty and administrators have attended a combined 175 hours of professional development workshops since 2013.
Chesapeake Bay Foundation Environmental Leadership:
Headmaster John Lewis will be attending in the summer of 2015. (3 days)

David Camden, Marissa Margosian, Woody Granger, Joe Thompson attended an hour long workshop on Gunston’s Green School, Environmental Education, and Sustainability efforts. This was complemented by a hands-on program at the Chesapeake Maritime Museum. (6 hours)

Amazon Rainforest Educator Workshops:
Emily Beck and Alison Vooris attended the ten day long workshop in July of 2014 in Peru’s Amazon watershed in preparation for returning with students. (80 hours)
